Lymphocyte Nuclear Anomalies, Chromosomal Aberrations and Proliferation in Head and Neck Cancer Patients

چکیده
Head and neck cancers (HNC) are placed fifth among the common cancers occurring worldwide. Overall, head and neck cancer account for more than 550,000 cases annually worldwide (Jemal et al., 2011). The present computations highlighted that in India, 1 in 10 men and 1 in 8 women would develop cancer of any form sometime after the age of 35 (Murthy et al., 2011). Over 200,000 cases of head and neck cancers occur each year in India and nearly 80,000 oral cancers are diagnosed every year. Head and neck cancer in India have distinct demographic profiles, risk factors, food habits, family and personal history (Kulkarni, 2013). HNC constitute an anatomically heterogeneous group of cancers. These

Background: It is reported that high frequency of chromosomal aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of individuals is a marker of cancer predisposition. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro frequency of chromosomal damage in lymphocytes of patients with head and neck cancer against gamma irradiation compared with those in healthy individuals. Methods: In a case and con...
متن کاملAssessment of EMS-induced genotoxicity in the Indian climbing perch, Anabas testudineus: cytogenetical vis-à-vis protein endpoints.
Genotoxic effects of EMS have been assessed in fish, A. testudineus, using widely accepted cytogenetic protocols like chromosome aberrations, nuclear anomalies in red blood cells and abnormal sperm head morphology. In addition, gel electrophoretic protein profiles and total protein contents in nine selected tissues were analysed for evaluating their utility as potential indicators of genotoxici...
متن کاملThe relationship between genetic susceptibility to head and neck cancer with the expression of common fragile sites.
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have recently been conducted to investigate genetic mechanisms in cancer causes and pathogenesis. Some of these studies have shown that there were certain specific chromosomal defects in normal cells of cancer patients and in their first-degree relatives. It was suggested that these individuals were susceptible to cancer development when compared with people without ...

Background: Variations in Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte Antigen-4 (CTLA-4) affect the expression and function of this protein. Objective: We aimed to investigate the association of +49 A/G (rs231775), +1822 C/T (rs231779) and +6230 A/G (CT60, rs3087243) genetic variations, as well as the merged haplotypes in CTLA-4 gene with susceptibility to, or progression of head and neck cancer. Methods: Eighty pa...
متن کاملRadiosensitizing effects of melatonin on radiation induced chromosomal aberration in G2-lymphocytes of breast cancer patients
Background: Radiotherapy is regarded as a standard treatment modality in breast cancer (BC). Radiation causes cellular damage both in cancer and normal cells by inducing DNA-damage and chromosomal aberrations (CA). Different agents were used for ameliorating effects of radiation, mainly antioxidants such as melatonin. Melatonin shows oncostatic properties on human BC. The aim of this study was ...
